Your Guide to the Lighthouses of New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia
Voyageur Press
A Pictorial Discovery Guide
For more than 200 years, lighthouses in the mid-Atlantic region have been guiding mariners around the shoals, reefs, and islands of Chesapeake Bay, Long Island Sound, the Hudson River, and the Intracoastal Waterway--not to mention the overshadowing Atlantic.
Today, lighthouses fascinate us as a source of national and maritime history and nostalgia. Both an exciting history and a tour guide, Lighthouses of the Mid-Atlantic Coast pays tribute to the 100-plus lighthouses that still operate in the states of New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia.
With informative text and exceptional four-color photographs, author Elinor DeWire and photographer Paul Eric Johnson take you on a journey through the history of lighthouses in this region. Lighthouses of the Mid-Atlantic Coast is a captivating look at not only the lighthouses themselves--structure, interiors, and lenses--but also provides compelling information about the construction of lighthouses, the history of the lighthouse service, stories of keepers and great rescues and wrecks, current preservation efforts, and much more.
